Philosophy of Music

The music ministry at Northwood Baptist offers many opportunities for participation in worship and involvement in service. One of our goals is to see every member and visitor getting involved in praise and worship each time we come together as we "make a joyful noise" and "sing with grace in our hearts to the Lord." Praise and worship are not just for the choir members or those who have some kind of musical background or experience, but for every believer who professes the name of Christ.

We enjoy uplifting, spirit-filled music in our times of worship. Music in worship is not only for praising the Lord but also for inspiring believers. While we respect and enjoy the rich heritage and strong theology of the old hymns, we also realize that there is a new generation of music that is just as strong in its theology and its connection to our Lord.  For that reason, we offer two distinct styles of worship service.  Our early worship at 8:30 is classic.  It includes a choir, piano, organ, and plenty of traditional hymns.  Our second worship service at 11:00 is upbeat and contemporary.  This service includes a more casual choir and praise team with full band and the music is a combination of modern praise & worship, upbeat contemporary songs, and modern arrangements of hymns.

For those of you who are looking for more involvement in using and developing your talents and gifts of music, there are opportunities for every age to be involved in music.

  • Our children in grades 1-6 can participate in music in Children's Church and even volunteer to come rehearse and be on the Children's Church Worship Team.
  • For 7th - 12th grade students, the youth worship band meets and rehearses to lead worship in the youth group that meets on Wednesday evenings.  For more information, check out the Student Ministry section of the website or contact the Youth Pastor.
  • And for anyone post-high school, Adult choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:45 p.m.  Adult choir is open to all who would like to participate.  Choir is the entry point into the adult music ministry.  Once someone has been faithful in choir, opportunities for joining the praise team and singing solos are available after an interview with the worship pastor.

The main goal and priority of the music ministry is to lift up the Name of the Lord in worship and evangelism, and to involve as many believers as possible in this glorious task.
