Honey, We're Shrinking the Kids
Preparing Your Children for Life
Research indicates sharp declines in religious and moral instruction in the buster and bridger population cohorts. This trend is further reflected in behavioral statistics among these age groups. Scripture clearly assigns responsibility for religious and moral teaching to the family. This series will examine several family issues that impact growing our children spiritually and morally.

Survival Kit for Parents (Judges 13:8)
Bookstore shelves are filled with family and parenting volumes. Psychologists, preachers, educators, family therapists, politicians, youth workers, Hollywood types, and even some enlightened parents weigh in on all the topics touching family life. Experts from a wide spectrum of disciplines offer pages of advice to assist parents in their child-rearing skills. Still there is no definitive parenting manual, an A –Z process for raising morally responsible, spiritually aware offspring. This morning we will study a Biblical family who raised their child in culturally dark times. We will learn where they found their parenting skills, and how they raised a son that we are talking about thousands of years later.

The Handoff (Psalm 71:18)
The responsibility to influence future generations toward God never ends. Look at the demographics of our times and you will note a hand-off nuance that may not be so discernible. You see, the builder generation (? – 1945) are really the population cohort of faith (65% profess faith in Christ). These are our older parents and grandparents. Some of them feel that they have done their job, completed their responsibility, and are ready for the rocking chair, or some less intensive participation in our spiritual landscape. Because they are the generation of faith, they should play a decisive role in leading our children to enlarge their faith and therefore influence our world. Let’s conclude this series on a very high with the commitment to raise the spiritual and moral bar for the next generations.
