Find a place to worship and serve
Northwood youth ministry strives to encourage and equip students to become the incredible people that God created them to be. If you're looking for authentic community and relationships, then you'll find it here. At Northwood, youth ministry is focused on leading students in 7th through 12th grade to life-shaping encounters with Christ. Whether it's Bible study, service opportunities, a weekend retreat, or just having a meal together, making Jesus known in real and personal ways is at the heart of it.
Life Connection Groups are small classes that meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for Bible study and community. These groups are grade-based for students to facilitate peer connection and learning. These groups are at the core of our student community. It is in the context of these groups that most fellowship activities and events occur. These groups are where the broadest support and encourage are found.
Wednesday nights, the youth gather upstairs in the Family Life Center for a time of fellowship, worship, and teaching. At 6:00, the doors open for fun and fellowship with one another. Students can play pool, ping pong, or simply talk with their friends. Following the time of fellowship, the youth worship team leads in worship through song, giving students an opportunity to prepare their hearts for the message. After worship, one of the youth leaders will bring a message from God's word. Messages are generally topical in nature, and targeted just to youth and their issues and needs.
Discipleship groups also meet on Sundays in the afternoon and evening. Adult leaders spend time getting to know a small group of students and address the heart issues that those individual students are dealing with. Adults guide with a Biblical foundation. Adults also learn where the students are spiritually and are able to encourage them toward Christian maturity in areas that may not be addressed during the Life Connection Group time or on Wednesday nights. Students wishing to participate in a discipleship group should contact either Ron Hickson or Andrew Cantrell.
Throughout the year, special events are offered for the youth. These events serve as both a spiritual boost and as community builders. Walking with Christ is a journey of high points and low points. Events are intended as a way to connect students so that when the low points arrive they have support and they have people to celebrate the high moments with. As a means to help our students fund their trips to camp and missions they run a small coffee shop on Sunday mornings.
As summer comes to a close we’re planning one last big event to say goodbye summer and to prepare for the launch of fall youth ministry.
Friday night, August 1, we’re hitting “SkyZone” in Mt. P for a little jump time and laughter.
Saturday it’s time to hit the water at Overton Park. A little lake volleyball, some boating, grilling,…good times! And up for grabs are bragging rights on who can hang on the tube the longest.
Sunday morning we’ll bring the whole weekend to a close with breakfast at the church and a look at the fall ministry lineup.
Registration online includes all expenses for the entire weekend (SkyZone, food Friday night, lunch Saturday, Overton Park admission, and breakfast Sunday).
